#10p4 #10m2 Cover Tues 4th June - Flyer Development

LO: To develop our Indesign/Illustrator skills whilst creating our flyers.

Starter:

You need to write a blog post that describes where you are up to so far.

You must briefly describe how you found your packaging work and what you want to achieve in your flyer work. (Spend 10 mins max)

Main:

You need to continue with your flyer and your flyer design log. 

You must show how you created the flyer in as much detail as possible showing all of the tools used.

If you are using copyright free images from the Internet, these need to go in your elements table. 

TIP: Use the flyer criteria list in your booklet to check you have included everything.

Plenary:

You need to spend 10 minutes updating your ongoing plans using the dates below. You can also add comments to the plan. Include what was on time/late/early using a colour code. (amber/red/green)

Dates:

Montage/packaging design -   14/03/13 – 28/05/13

Net – 12/02/13 – 26/03/13

Shop front – 18/02/13 – 12/02/13

Elevation – 28/11/12 – 18/12/12 

10m2 10p4 Indesign Tutorial for flyers.

Starter: Click here to see the criteria for the flyer. Check your hand drawn flyer in your booklet and complete any missing requirements.

Task: Using software of your choosing, create your flyer on computer. 

Tip: Adobe Indesign is a more sophisticated version of Publisher. 
Use the tutorial here to help you.

The iPod touch will be coming around for you to photograph your hand drawn design.

Plenary: Update your ongoing plan. 

10m2 Cover - Period 2

LO: To extend our understanding of the requirements of our flyers.

Starter: Complete the bitmap v vector paragraphs for all 5 of your design logs. Comment on the types of image, the quality, what size it is needed, how realistic it needs to be and how professional.

Task: Re-read this and make sure you are aware of the criteria required.

Task: In your booklet, complete your flyer hand drawn design. You need to add on your shop front and packaging. Your sketches can be rough!
You MUST include colour and have feedback as well as suggested improvements.

Once you have done this, you can begin creating it on computer using Adobe Indesign. Use the Internet to help you find tutorials if you are stuck. (It is  more advanced version of Publisher) 

Plenary: Update your ongoing plans and write a blog post about the work you have done over the last few weeks. 

Homework: If your photo montage or photo montage design log is not complete, this needs to be done in clinic. There is no more lesson time on this.
Write in your planner that it MUST be COMPLETED by Friday 17th May else DTs will be set.

10m2/10p4 Introduction to Photoshop

LO: To develop our skills in Adobe Photoshop so that we can create our packaging designs.

Starter:
Link up your improved design logs. I will be coming round to look at them.

Main:
You are going to start designing your packaging design in Photoshop.
I will go through the basics but use the video on the Wildern ICT page if you get stuck.
In particular look at the collage video clip.

Remember you will need to show how you created your design step by step as well as have a draft and final version.

You may want to do your design log as you make it.

Plenary:
Write a blog post of the skills you have learnt today.
Update your ongoing plan.

Packaging Nets and Montages

Starter: Save your completed Packaging net design log as a PDF and link to your Evidence page. Take a print screen of your final packaging net, paste in to Word and PDF then link to your Products page.
Add the image of your hand drawn net to your Evidence page. 

Photo Montages: Below are 2 examples of photo montages. Your packaging design has to be a photo montage made up of images.

Task: In your booklet start to design your photo montage. You could fill the box with images then your net will be placed on top and cut out.

REMEMBER -  You must use copyright free images or your own original images. All images used from a website must be put in your elements table.

Plenary: Get feedback from the person next to you. 2 stars and 1 wish.

Year 10 Packaging Design logs

Today's task: Complete your final packaging net and your packaging design log.

Make sure you have included:

• the scale
• the units
• the measurements
• a key for the fold and cut lines

When describing the tools in your design log, show how you:

• drew the shapes
• showed cut and fold lines
• added the text labels

When this is complete check it with me then PDF both and link the final net to your Products page and the design log to your Evidence page.

EXT: Improve your website formatting adding any additional detail where necessary.

Yr 10 Deadlines

Pupils need to complete any of the work they did not do yesterday. 

Pupils need to create a research document that discusses what makes a good or bad logo. They must find at least 5 examples and need to annotate all thinking about what type of company the logo represents and how successful they think it is.

Pupils then need to start their  hand drawn logo designs on paper.

Once they have completed these they need to get constructive feedback on them and improve them from this feedback. (This means draw a second one that's better.)

If pupils complete all of this, they can begin creating their logo in Illustrator. Pupils must ONLY use the vector tools. If it is created in bitmap tools, it will not pass.

Pupils must save different version of their logo (before and after improvements).

Again pupils will need to get feedback on this and make improvements.

If pupils complete all of this, they can begin researching what makes a good shop front.

LO1 - Understand the benefits of using a template to create a website 
LO2 - Be able to create a series of web pages using a template

In today's lesson we will be looking at how we can use templates to make the process of creating a website more effective. You will be working with a template of your choice to create a website about a topic of your choice.

Task 1 - Dreamweaver Templates

1. Go to www.justdreamweaver.com
2. Preview the free templates (they're at the bottom of the Templates page)
3. Choose one that you think would be suitable for a website aimed at teachers and examiners?
4. Download it into to your Sites folder (you will need to sign up with your school email to be able to do this

Task 2 - Creating Webpages from a Template

Make yourself a folder in your Sites folder (if this ends up being the template you use then you can rename the folder) - Call it Unit 3 Take It Away
USE ONLY THIS WEBSITE:

Choose your template (based on research from previous lesson)
(for some template websites you may have to set up an account)

3. Click on download - this ask you to save as a will give you a ZIP file (yellow folder)

4. Right Click on the Zip file and 'extract' to your new folder (Unit 3 Take It Away)

(If you get this next stage wrong you'll have to delete everything and start again)

5. Open Dreamweaver (All programs, Adobe Master Collection)

6. Click on Manage Sites (blue writing bottom left corner)
Give your Site a name (Take It Away) for example. Then browse to find the folder you saved your tempate / extracted files in.

7. All the contents of the Zip File (ie - what you downloaded) should appear bottom right corner - where it says local files - and all the folders should be bright green

8. Click on Index.html to see your template - .html is an example file of what your pages could look like

9. To make your own new pages - Go to File, New, Page from Template - choose the template you want to use. Click Create and save in the practice - call one index.html (save over the one that exists)

Any areas in blue boxes are editable - any areas which display the "no entry" sign are uneditable.

TO EDIT / UPDATE

To edit your template - ie: change text or image so that it updates on every page, you need to edit the .dwt file. Try this out just with text to start with. Save and view the other pages. They should all look the same.
To replace the header image with a new one - create an image in Fireworks or Photoshop which is the same size. Replace the image which is in the .dwt file - save the template and all other pages should update 

Task3 - Post about your choice

1. Which template did you choose?
2. How will you make sure that your website is suitable for a teacher and an examiner?

E-Safety Prezi

    1. Go on to Prezi.com.
     2. Create a free account.
    3. Create a Prezi that explains:

• What E-Safety is
• What the dangers are online
• How to stay safe
• Some Top Tips (10)

You can include media such as video, images, etc 

   4.Add your Prezi to your blog by clicking the SHARE button.

   5.Copy the URL on to a new blog post.

   6. Make sure you write an introduction and give the Post a title.
